Do you need to know "Is Nyx cruelty free?" There is a lot of debate over whether or not Nyx is cruelty free. Some people say that the brand does test on animals, while others claim that they don't. Restorbio decided to do some research to see what the truth is.

When it comes to makeup and beauty, one of the most important things for many people is whether or not a brand is cruelty-free. This means that the company doesn’t test their products on animals, an essential part of being cruelty-free. The popular makeup brand, NYX, has been a subject of debate when it comes to this topic.

People often wonder, “Is NYX cruelty-free?”

Is NYX Cruelty Free?

NYX has confirmed that its products are cruelty-free.

They do not test any of their final products or ingredients on animals and they don’t sell products where it is required by law.

Understanding this situation, NYX has established a policy that is somewhat of a compromise. Even though they currently sell products in China, they pledge to never allow their products to be tested on animals. So far, they have remained true to this pledge.

PETA has certified NYX as cruelty-free.

The truth is, even if a brand is certified by PETA as cruelty-free, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the brand has no affiliation with animal testing. It simply means that the products produced aren’t tested on animals and that no animal-derived ingredients are used. In the case of NYX, their commitment to never letting their brand be involved in any animal testing is admirable.

Is NYX Leaping Bunny Certified?

When a cruelty-free organization like PETA or Leaping Bunny certifies makeup companies as cruelty-free, they gain greater trust from consumers.

NYX Professional Makeup does not have Leaping Bunny certification, but they do have official PETA certification.
This basically means they have met all PETA requirements, which aren't quite as strict as Leaping Bunny.

These certifications can be obtained by cosmetics companies if they provide all documentation proving that they have not tested on animals during product manufacturing.

Is NYX Vegan?

As a dedicated vegan, doing my research for vegan-friendly makeup brands is always an exciting thrill. One such brand that is often asked about regarding its vegan status is NYX. As one of the most popular makeup brands out there, there is no surprise why so many people are curious as to whether their coveted products are vegan or not.

So, is NYX vegan? The answer to this question is a bit complicated. NYX has released some vegan products, but not all of the products on offer are vegan-friendly. The precise ingredients that are used in their finishing touches and other products are not always clear, so it can be difficult to determine whether a particular item is vegan immediately.

The good news is that NYX does list the ingredients of its vegan makeup items, taking away some of the guesswork that otherwise you'd have to do. So at least we know that any item that is labeled as ‘vegan’ is, in fact, vegan. Products, such as cream shadows, gel eyeliners, and blushes, are all safe for vegan consumption since the company clearly states their ingredients in the product labels.

That being said, not all products are vegan. The brand’s mascaras, concealers, and lipsticks contain animal-derived ingredients, such as carmine, beeswax, and lanolin. This means that, while some of the products offered by NYX are vegan-friendly, not all are and some caution is necessary when it comes to selecting makeup items from the brand.

NYX isn't 100% vegan, but they do have many vegan products.

All of their vegan products are listed here.

I ask the following questions before deciding whether a brand is cruelty-free or vegan.

  • Are your products vegan-friendly? Which products are vegan?
  • Are your products and ingredients tested on animals?
  • Are you a Leaping Bunny, or PETA certified?
  • Do you have any suppliers who test animals for you?
  • Is your company selling products in mainland China (except Hong Kong),?
  • Is your parent company responsible for testing on animals?

About NYX

What is NYX Animal Testing Policies

NYX cosmetics claims it is a cruelty-free company.

They believe that cosmetic products and ingredients should not be tested on animals. This is in direct contradiction to their mission as a cosmetics company.

Their actions and beliefs prove their commitment to cruelty-free cosmetics.

PETA has certified NYX Professional Makeup. This means that their products are not tested on animals.

Their FAQ section answers the question of being a cruelty-free company like this:

PETA has certified NYX Professional Makeup as a cruelty-free brand. We believe in cruelty-free cosmetics. All of our products are not tested on animals."

Despite this, it's great to know that the LA-based cosmetic company doesn't test its products or ingredients on animals.

There are also other things we need to be aware of.

History of NYX

NYX Professional was established in Los Angeles in 1999. The founder ensured that all skin types were covered by the products.

NYX is a cruelty-free brand in a city that has many well-known makeup brands.

The company confirmed that they don't test animals and do not ask for others to test on their behalf.

What do they say about it?

The company proudly declares that they do not test on animals and that its suppliers do not perform animal testing.

They also prohibit animal testing in countries that require it.

A great thing about cosmetics companies that aren't cruelty-free is the fact that they don't sell their products in countries that require animal testing, like Mainland China.

NYX cosmetics is a company that has a different approach than many others. They are committed to animal welfare and those who care about animal rights.

Recent Developments of NYX

NYX Professional was purchased by L'Oreal, a multinational personal-care company.

Although there are many brands that this company owns that aren't cruelty-free, NYX Cosmetics has remained true to its core values.

NYX's strict approach has allowed them to meet the criteria for being certified as a cruelty-free brand and has been sold with a cruelty-free logo.

We would love to support PETA's certification, but NYX's parent company has taken them out of contention for our 100% cruelty-free shopping lists.

Three 100% Cruelty-Free Alternatives To Nyx

NYX has proven that they don't test any of their products on animals.

Their parent company, however, makes them less appealing to people who are looking for cruelty-free products. You're basically lining L'Oreal's coffers when you purchase NYX.

You might still be looking for cruelty-free options for NYX, but with vegan options as well, I recommend the three brands that I have selected.
