What is Niacinamide? How does it work?

Niacinamide, also known as nicotinamide, is a topical form of vitamin B3 of niacin that treats rosacea, redness, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology reports that it can act as an antioxidant. It can improve epidermal skin barrier function and decrease skin hyperpigmentation. It can also reduce redness/blotchiness and skin yellowness (sallowness) and increase skin elasticity. Although the mechanism of Niacinamide's functions is not entirely understood, there is ample scientific evidence and double-blinded trials that support multiple cosmetic brands' claims about its effectiveness. Dr. Dendy Engelman, a board-certified dermatologist, helped me understand the science behind this serum. She said that Niacinamide is a beautiful skincare ingredient as it is safe for all skin. This includes sensitive, aging, dry, and sensitive skin. You can check. Niacinamide calms inflammation and redness and has no side effects. It works in the same way as retinol, strengthening the skin barrier and fortifying the skin from the beginning without irritation or sensitivity. It is also an antioxidant, preventing free radical damage. That's a lot to unpack, but Dr. Engelman's point is that for all-over anti-aging, skin-brightening, and inflammation-reducing power, turn to incorporate niacinamide. It is a gentler alternative to retinol or retinoids the ordinary for sensitive skin. Dr. Engelman notes that you should use a serum form of Niacinamide, not a lotion, to ensure better absorption.

Pros and Cons

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Review Pros and Cons Pros: It is incredibly lightweight and dries quickly. It's best to apply it after cleansing and toning your skin tone. However, before applying any other moisturizers or serums to your face, you should wait. Apply the product directly to your skin using the dropper. It absorbs quickly, so it is best to apply it directly to your skin. Topical Vitamin C users should not use this serum. Niacinamide is known to impact the integrity of vitamin A products negatively. But, Niacinamide can also be used in combination with retinol. It may even help prepare your skin for retinol so that you don't feel the discomfort associated with it. Cons: This product is affordable, and I can't fault it. The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum has helped me brighten my skin, reduce inflammation, and increase hydration. We found the product lacking in one key area: reducing hyperpigmentation. If that's what you're most hoping for, I'd suggest seeking out a more focused hyperpigmentation-reducing product like these. A final point: I am a white man with very fair skin. I cannot speak for other skin or colors about the product's effectiveness. Science shows that Niacinamide has very few side effects on all skin. My Thoughts on the Ordinary Niacinamide 10% Zinc 1% Serum

My Thoughts on the Ordinary Niacinamide 10% Zinc 1% Serum.

This serum has had a special place in my heart since I purchased and used it. As I previously stated, the main reason I bought The Ordinary niacinamide serum was to help reduce excess oil, calm down redness, treat blemishes, and improve my skin tone. I have oily (acne-prone skin) and sensitive skin, so I've dealt with oiliness and redness. I occasionally burst out laughing. Although I control my breakouts with retinol serum, which has been highly beneficial, I decided to add niacinamide to my routine to beef it up. After two weeks of using This serum, I'm happy to report that my expectations were met, and this serum truly lives up to the hype. First and foremost, it helped to reduce excessive oiliness, particularly around my nose and T-zone. My large visible pores were shrunken and reduced in size, as were my annoying minor pesky blemishes and blackheads, and redness is no longer an issue. My most considerable testimony, however, is the significant reduction in oiliness. My skin no longer produces excess oil like it used to, and guess what? My skin tone improved. My biggest concern was that the serum would irritate my skin because it contains 10% niacinamide. This very high concentration may not suit some skin types, particularly susceptible skin tones. So, if you believe The 10% + Zinc 1% serum is suitable for your skin, you must conduct a patch test first (to test for allergy). This water-based serum should be applied before any heavier oils or creams in the morning and evening to reap the full benefits. Example. For a more effective result, apply The Ordinary niacinamide serum first before using any heavier moisturizers, oils, or serums. After applying niacinamide serum, I apply CeraVe moisturizing lotion to seal in moisture and keep my skin hydrated all night. Note: Because some skin types, particularly those with susceptible skin, cannot tolerate a high percentage of niacinamide, opt for a lower concentration (recommended 2 – 5 percent). Other niacinamide serums with lower concentrations can be found here. How Does It Feel Against Your Skin

How Does It Feel Against Your Skin?

When This serum is applied to the skin, it feels soothing (similar to hyaluronic acid). It spreads evenly at first, but it tends to make your skin feel a little dry after it's absorbed because niacinamide is best suited for individuals with oily skin and hormonal acne-prone skin because it regulates sebum (oil production) and shrinks large visible pores, you may feel a slight drying effect when applied on your skin. To counteract the slight drying effect, I use CeraVe moisturizing lotion (which is oil-free and contains hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and peptides). Instead, I use the hyaluronic acid serum on occasion. Please don't use too much of This serum because it can cause excessive dryness or tackiness. 2-3 drops are sufficient. A small amount goes a long way. After that, apply a rich moisturizer. Note: Choose moisturizers appropriate for your skin type; there are moisturizers for dry skin and moisturizers for oily skin. Some people complained about a slightly sticky sensation after applying this serum. Still, I never felt that way because it absorbs instantly and leaves no residue behind (except for a tacky finish). Because everyone's skin is different, the results may vary as well. If you experience a sticky sensation, layering an oil-free moisturizer or hyaluronic acid serum will counteract it. Note: While rubbing The Ordinary niacinamide serum into your skin, you may notice some foaming. This is entirely normal and nothing to be concerned about. If you don't use too much, the foaming effect will only last a few seconds. As a result, 2-3 drops are sufficient (a little goes a long way).
