What Is The Ordinary Buffet?
You might have wondered why The Ordinary cruelty free Buffet is called that.
Hannah, Brand & Content Manager, pointed out that this serum is a buffet of good things for your skin tone.
The Ordinary Buffet Review
The Ordinary Argireline Solution 10%
Peptides included: Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 (a.k.a. Botox's shortened peptide sequence, argireline.
It does precisely what the manufacturer claims. The muscles are unable to move. Expressions like smile lines and forehead wrinkles will appear smaller if they cannot move.
Science says it works: A 2013 study found that Argireline can be used twice daily for up to 48% reduction in crow's feet.
Side effects: Argireline doesn't penetrate the skin well. A person with thin skin will only improve skin texture. You won't notice any improvement if your skin is too thick or young.
It is recommended for mature women with thin skin who wish to reduce their expression lines.
Extraordinary Skin tone with The Ordinary is an excellent option if you feel overwhelmed and intimidated by The Ordinary skincare. Cheryl Woodman, my scientist friend, created speed training for The Ordinary.
The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA (hyaluronic acid)
Matrixyl (tm), Matrixyl (tm), 3000 (palmitoyl-tetrapeptide-77) and Matrixyl (tm), synthe'6 (palmitoyl tripeptide-88) were included.
Matrixyl does precisely what it says: It stimulates collagen production and reduces wrinkle appearance.
Science says it doesn't: Not much. Only the manufacturer did any studies. These studies show that Matrixyl boosts collagen production (at least in rats).
Side effects: If you don't see the results you desire, it is a waste of money. Before I add it to my skincare routine, I am waiting for independent research to confirm its collagen-boosting abilities.
This Ordinary Matrixyl 10% hyaluronic acid is not recommended for everyone. If you have enough money and your ascorbic acid and retinoids are already in use, you might consider giving it a try.

The Ordinary Buffet
Included:
- Matrixyl(tm), 3000 peptide compound (with palmitoyl tripeptide-7)
- Matrixyl(tm), synthe'6 (tm), peptide complex (with Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38).
- SYN(TM);-AKE peptide complex (with dipeptide dilbutyroyl benzyl amide diacetate).
- Relistase peptide complex (with acetylarginyltryptophyl diphenylglycine)
- ARGIRELOX(tm), peptide complex (with Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Pentapeptide-18).
The manufacturer claims it does. Let's take a look at the peptides, one by one.
- Argirelox Peptide Compound: This relaxes muscles so that they cannot move. No movement = no expression lines.
- Palmitoyl tripeptide-1: Boosts collagen.
- Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 - It makes your skin smoother and firmer.
- Palmitoyl Tripeptide 38: This increases the production of hyaluronic acid in the skin tone.
- Dipeptide dibutyroyl Benzylamide d-Diacetate: Syn(TM), like Argireline, relaxes muscles to reduce lines and wrinkles.
- Acetylarginyltryptophyl Diphenylglycine: Known as Restylane, it boosts collagen.
- Science says it doesn't: Not much. Except for the Argireline study, which I have already mentioned, I could not find any independent research supporting the other peptides' claims. All of the studies appear to have been done by the manufacturer.
- Side effects: Again, peptides aren't dangerous for your skin. Your wallet is what you should be concerned about.
It is not recommended for everyone: Buffet isn't a good choice unless you have the funds. It's an inexpensive way to find out more about peptides.
The Ordinary Buffet + Copper Peptides 1%
Included:
- Copper Peptides (a.k.a. GHK-Cu/Copper Tripeptide-1)
- Matrixyl 3000 complex peptide (with palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7)
- Complex Matrixyl synthe'6 peptide (with palmitoyl tripeptide 38)
- SYN-AKE peptide Complex (with dipeptide diaminobutyroylbenzylamide diacetate).
- Release peptide complex (with acetylarginyltryptophyl diphenylglycine)
- ARGIRELOX peptide Complex (with acetyl-hexapeptide-8 and pentapeptide-18).
According to the manufacturer, copper peptides activate many functions within the body, including wound healing, collagen productions, and anti-inflammatory reactions.
They maintain the skin's constant state of repair. What about other peptides, you ask? These peptides are the same as Buffet. Please refer to the section above.
Science says it does. A 2015 study found that copper peptides can soothe the skin, speed up wound healing and increase collagen. There is no evidence that the other peptides do anything.
Side effects: Too much copper can cause you to age faster and have the opposite effect. To be safe, only use the serum a few times per week.
It is recommended for anyone over 40 who has been using proven collagen boosters such as vitamin C and retinol but feels like there are more things you can do to maintain your skin's health.
How To Use The Ordinary Buffet
This serum can be easily incorporated into your skincare routine. It is water-based and should be applied after cleansing and toning. However, it should not be used before applying sunscreen, oils, creams, or other skin care anti-aging products.
What is the best time to use this serum? Depending on which product you use (see conflicts below), Buffet can be used morning or evening.
How To Layer The Ordinary Buffet
Before applying moisturizers or oil-based products, apply this serum to clean skin. Consider the product thickness when layering Buffet with other water-based products.
Water-based serums can be applied in the order of thickest to thinnest consistency. This will ensure maximum absorption and performance. The Ordinary suggests that you use no more than three serums in one skincare routine.
The Ordinary Buffet Conflicts
It is a combination of skincare products and makeup, is not recommended.
Ordinary Buffet should not be used in the same skincare regimen as products that contain direct exfoliating acid and pure vitamin C (l -ascorbic/ethylated Ascorbic Acid).
Refined vitamin C products and alpha-hydroxy acids like glycolic acid and lactic acid are formulated at lower pHs. Using Buffet in combination with these products at a lower pH may result in formula degradation.
When Should You Use Buffet The Ordinary?
After washing and toning your face, apply the normal buffet serum daily and nightly.
For the day, apply it before the multiple hyaluronic acid complexes 2% + B5 and sunscreen.
You can use it before retinol serum or a skin oil at night.
Some people swear by the Ordinary serum after moisturizer and claim to have great results.
It's all about experimenting and knowing your skin type and what works best for you.
How Often Should You Use The Standard Buffet?
If you want, you can use it every day.
Some people use the ordinary at least twice a week.
However, they alternate with a different type of complementary skincare product in this case.
This, in my opinion, is not a good idea if you are just getting started with the product because it can be confusing.
In any case, it is always best to stick with a single product for a single regimen so that you can track the results.
How Long Will It Take To See Improvements?
People have reported seeing improvements as early as the second day. Others say after 10 days.
It is entirely dependent on your organism, skin type, age, and specific conditions.
In my case, all I needed was something to reduce pores and improve skin texture.
After the first applications, I began to see some minimal results, but it only took two weeks for it to make sense.
You will see the full potential of this serum if you continue to use it day and night for 3 to 6 months.
