While you can be in your routine at home and have access to your favorite products in case of a skincare emergency, you want to be prepared with your essentials that are tried and true while you travel so you set your skin up as best as possible. Whether you travel by car, by plane, or whichever method, traveling can stressful on the skin in terms of dryness, a shift in diet, a use of a new product, general travel stress and more. So if you have sensitive skin in particular, considering what your skin is sensitive to and packing for your trip accordingly so you have the right products can be a game changer in how well your skin looks and feels while away on holiday.
Before you travel, you’ll want to make sure that you always have your tried and true favorite skincare essentials such as:
- Delicate cleanser
While it is so important to remove sunscreen and makeup from the day, it is also important to not wash your skin with a harsh cleanser such as a bar of soap that has known irritants for your skin you end up having to use because you forgot a cleanser! Add a delicate cleanser to your skincare essentials list so you know you always have a trusted cleanser that is effective enough for every cleaning but gentle enough in case you get a sunburn or face another skin irritant throughout your travels.
- A rich moisturizer
A rich moisturizer can give your skin just the boost it needs while it recovers while you sleep on vacation. Since many people face extra stress, dryness and even irritations on their skin while traveling, a rich moisturizer that you know is enough but not too much can end up making all the difference for your skin while you’re on vacation. Creams that have hyaluronic acid, such as hyaluronic acid cosmetics by Blue Lagoon, can help to lock in hydration and give your skin the boost it needs while traveling. If you are in a pinch with your skin and need the extra hydration or nourishment, you can also swap in a light layer of it during the day. Just be sure you don’t overload your skin with other products and don’t forget to apply and reapply sunscreen!
- Tinted moisturizer
A tinted moisturizer is a 2 for 1 product than many people use in their day to day life already, to take the place of moisturizer and a foundation. While you travel, in particular, it can help cut down the number of products that you have to carry with you! Just be sure to consider the humidity level before you go because in case it is very different than where your home base is, because the hydration level of the product may feel like too much upon arrival to your destination and this could mean you don’t want to use it and would be without foundation.
- Lip balm and hand cream
A lip balm and hand cream are essentials you never want to be without. They don’t take up much space in your bag, and you’ll want ones that are small enough to fit in each bag option while you travel. Lip balm is generally made with beeswax, lanolin, petrolatum, or shea butter to moisturize and soften your lips. They come in small containers that are easy to toss in your bag or pocket so you can use them on-the-go. Lip balms usually have a slight tint to them that gives your lips a healthy glow.
Hand cream is made with oils like jojoba oil or avocado oil that penetrate deeply into your skin to restore moisture levels, leaving your hands feeling soft and supple. Hand creams typically come in larger containers than lip balms so they're easy to apply without making a mess!
- Facial mist
Facial mists are a fantastic way to add moisture and hydration to your skin, and they're a great way to keep your skin looking dewy and fresh all day long. But what exactly is a facial mist? And how does it work? A facial mist is a spray-on moisturizer that you use to give your face a quick spritz of moisture throughout the day. They come in many different scents, from fruity mango to refreshing cucumber, so you can find one that smells just right for you. It's also worth noting that although some people use their facial mists as an alternative to their daily moisturizer, they aren't meant to replace it—they're just another tool in your skincare arsenal (and they smell amazing).
- Sheet Mask
Sheet masks come in all shapes and sizes, and they're typically soaked in water-based serums that contain ingredients like vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, or green tea. Sheet masks can be used to hydrate dry skin or treat acne and other skin conditions such as blackheads and whiteheads. They are also great for people who suffer from sunburn because they contain soothing ingredients like aloe vera. Regular use of sheet masks can help improve the elasticity of your skin by increasing collagen production and preventing free radical damage caused by pollution. The best thing about sheet masks is that you don't need to rinse them off! You just take them off when they're done (usually after 10 or 15 minutes), pat your face dry with a towel if needed, then go about your day as usual.
- SPF
No one wants to get sun burned while on vacation, let alone in general! So whether it is just face or face and body that you have a favorite sunscreen for, these products are worth packing so you have one that you know your skin already is ok with and that you will use. Water-resistant or water-proof? If you're swimming or sweating while wearing your sunscreen, it can wash off. Look for one that's specifically labeled as water-resistant or waterproof (they say so right on the label). Otherwise, make sure to reapply every two hours if you're outside in the sun all day long.
